Pune: The 68th edition of the prestigious Maharashtra Kesari Wrestling Championship (2025\u201326) will be held in Wagholi, Pune, from March 18 to March 22. The championship is being organised by Ramkrishna Anna Satav Patil under the aegis of the Maharashtra State Wrestling Association. Details about the event planning, arrangements, prizes and other key aspects were shared during a recent press conference addressed by Meghraj Katke, President of the Pune District Wrestling Association.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arena almost ready<\/em>
Katke informed that nearly 99 percent of the work on the specially constructed sports arena has been completed and final preparations are underway. The venue has been designed to accommodate around 40,000 to 50,000 spectators and will offer modern facilities for players and visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Separate gallery for women spectators<\/em>
A dedicated and spacious gallery has been created for women spectators during the championship. On the opening day, special priority will be given to women attendees and additional arrangements have been made for their comfort and safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand opening on March 18<\/em>
The championship will be inaugurated on March 18 at 6 pm by Maharashtra\u2019s first Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar. The closing ceremony on March 22 will be attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

15 wrestlers selected through wild card entries<\/em>
During a recent meeting of the Maharashtra State Wrestling Association, discussions were held regarding wild card entries. A total of 36 applications were received, out of which 15 wrestlers have been selected to participate through this category. Several prominent wrestlers are expected to compete in the championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participation of 850 wrestlers from 42 teams<\/em>
Around 850 wrestlers from 42 teams across Maharashtra will participate in the championship. Comprehensive arrangements for accommodation, meals and other essential facilities have been made for the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Matches on four arenas<\/em>
The venue will feature four wrestling arenas \u2014 two traditional mud akhadas and two mat arenas. Considering the rising temperatures, matches will be conducted between 7 am to 9 am in the morning and 5 pm to 10 pm in the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
