Inspection of Double-Decker Flyover at University Chowk Within Seven Days

PMRDA Commissioner Assures Action

Pune: In the backdrop of a possible structural defect in the Baner ramp of the double-decker flyover at Savitribai Phule Pune University Chowk, PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari has assured that the Chief Engineer will inspect the site within the next seven days and take necessary action.

Corporator Sunny Vinayak Nimbhan met Chaudhari and submitted a memorandum regarding the issue.

The Baner ramp of the double-decker flyover project, constructed by PMRDA at University Chowk, was recently inaugurated by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar, and Union Minister of State Murlidhar Mohol. The project is considered an important infrastructure development aimed at reducing traffic congestion in Pune city.
However, after a photograph of a section of the ramp construction surfaced, concerns were raised about a structural joint not being properly sealed or possible defects in the quality of construction. Considering public safety, Nimbhan demanded that an immediate technical inspection be conducted.

Although an external defect may not pose an immediate structural risk, if there is a flaw in the joint, it could affect the long-term durability and safety of the structure.

Nimbhan has also demanded an independent structural audit of the site. If necessary, a third-party inspection by reputed expert institutions such as IIT, VJTI, or other recognized technical bodies should be conducted.

Meanwhile, Nimbhan also met the newly appointed PMRDA Commissioner Abhijit Chaudhari to welcome him. During the meeting, Chaudhari assured that the site will be inspected within seven days and appropriate action will be taken. He also stated that he would personally visit the location if required.
