Pune — With the aim of advancing skill development in the aviation sector in Western India, the Global School of Aviation, the training arm of Global Flight Handling Services (a licensed ground handling service provider at Pune Airport authorized by the Airports Authority of India), has inaugurated its cutting-edge training center at AeroMall near Pune International Airport. The center was inaugurated by India’s Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, Mr. Murlidhar Mohol.

This new training center underscores Pune’s growing importance in India’s aviation sector. Previously known as a key base for airport services, Pune will now also serve as a hub for aviation training and employment opportunities.

“Pune has always been recognized for its quality and innovation. With the expansion of air connectivity under the UDAN scheme and increased passenger traffic, this region’s youth will now have timely access to skill development opportunities,” said Minister Murlidhar Mohol. “I appreciate Global School of Aviation for investing in Pune and supporting the Government of India’s vision of making India a global aviation hub.”

The Pune center of Global School of Aviation will offer diploma, certification, and degree programs in airport ground handling, cabin crew training, airport operations, and management, in collaboration with AMET University. Plans are also underway to bring internationally recognized certification programs from regulatory bodies and to develop a fully equipped mock aircraft cabin for practical training.

“We are proud to launch this center in Pune. It enables us to meet our in-house demand and provide a strong platform for aspiring aviators — those looking to build a career in the technical and operational side of airports,” said Ms. Sarita Kumari, Managing Director of Global Flight Handling Services. Currently, the company employs over 400 staff at Pune Airport, 95% of whom are from Pune and neighboring districts. This center reflects the company’s continued commitment to local employment, skill development, and aviation excellence.

Located in India’s first airport mall complex directly opposite Pune International Airport, this training center offers students real-time exposure to airport operations. Trainees will have the opportunity to interact directly with industry experts from Global Flight Handling Services. The company operates at 23 airports across India, including Pune, Aurangabad, Jalgaon, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra. The company remains committed to expanding its presence across Maharashtra and other parts of India as a ground handling service provider and to improving aviation infrastructure and training quality nationwide.

The training center features smart classrooms, multimedia-equipped training halls, an in-progress cabin crew training lab, career counseling and placement assistance, and direct on-ground experience at Pune Airport.

Pune Airport, one of the fastest-growing airports in India, handled over 10.54 million passengers in the financial year 2024–25 and is currently undergoing major expansion. With increasing demand for domestic and regional flights, there is a rapidly growing need for trained airport personnel in the city.

Following the launch of its Chennai center in 2024, Pune is the second training center under the Global School of Aviation brand. New centers are also planned in Kochi, Ahmedabad, and Visakhapatnam.

Global School of Aviation is a subsidiary of Global Flight Handling Services, which is part of Updater Services Ltd., India’s largest integrated facility management and business support services company, employing over 65,000 people.

“This is not just a training center — it is a pathway for thousands of Indian youth to build careers in the aviation industry,” said the Managing Director. “Whether someone aspires to work on the ground or dreams of becoming aircrew, our commitment is to provide quality education, international certification, and hands-on experience.”
