Pune : A cricket tournament organized by the Pune City Bengali Cricket Club was recently concluded at Tebekar Ground, Bibvewadi. The closing ceremony was attended by MLA Hemant Rasne, Corporator Vishal Dhanwade, Subrato Majumdar, Pune City Bengali Cricket Club President Nayan Sheikh, Secretary Abbas Sheikh, Working President Rafael Sheikh, members Jersil Sheikh, Habib Mandalik, Sanjay Pal, along with a large number of members from the Bengali community.

Speaking on the occasion, Corporator Vishal Dhanwade said that for many years, Bengali families have been living harmoniously in Pune city and across Maharashtra. While residing here, they celebrate their festivals and cultural events together. Not only this, cricket enthusiasts from the community also organize such tournaments. He termed this initiative truly commendable and a matter of pride, adding that as Punekars, they stand firmly in support of such initiatives.

Nayan Sheikh said that workers who have migrated from Kolkata come together to organize this tournament. The competition is held to provide recreation for workers and to help maintain their physical well-being. This year marks the 24th edition of the tournament organized by the Pune City Bengali Cricket Club. A total of 12 teams participated in the tournament. Players from Pune city, across Maharashtra, as well as from Kolkata, took part in the competition. The tournament receives valuable support from the local Bengali community, artisans, and businesspersons. Preparations for the event begin nearly two months in advance.

In the tournament, the winning team Talegaon Hrid Mazare Club was awarded a cash prize of ₹1 lakh along with a trophy, while the runner-up team Sheikh Brothers 11 Star received a cash prize of ₹70,000 along with a trophy.
