Pune: The official announcement of the Whitecoat Celebrity Cricket League (WCCL) 2026 — India’s first-ever doctor–celebrity T20 leather ball cricket league — was made today. Based on the concept “Where healthcare, cricket and glamour come together,” this unique league aims to honour the achievements of doctors while delivering high-quality cricket entertainment, informed league Founder and Managing Director Sachin Waghmare during a press conference.
CA Akhil Kumar and Dipesh Shere (WCCL Operations and Marketing) were present on the occasion.

Speaking further, Sachin Waghmare said that this is India’s first league where doctors from across the country and well-known celebrities will be seen playing together on one platform. More than 5,000 doctors from across India have registered for WCCL trials. Ground trials for this first-of-its-kind professional cricket league for doctors have been completed nationwide, and the selection process is currently underway. Trials are being conducted with great enthusiasm in cities including Pune, Mumbai and Ahmedabad.

The league will feature 10 doctor-led teams, with each team including 1 to 2 celebrity players. League matches will be played in a round-robin format in Pune, while the semi-finals and final will be held outside the country. A grand auction of 200 to 500 selected doctors will take place in Pune and will be broadcast live. Along with Indian doctors, doctors from overseas, including the UK, are also participating. A significant number of registrations have come not only from urban areas but also from rural and village-based doctor-players. The league will also feature noted actors such as Siddharth Jadhav, Sanjay Jadhav, Pravin Tarde and several other prominent artists.

The preliminary phase of the Whitecoat Celebrity Cricket League 2026 will be held from May 4 to May 8, 2026, with group-stage league matches played in two groups. These matches will take place in Pune, while the semi-final and final matches will be played in Dubai. Through this league, doctors will be honoured in a unique manner beyond their medical services. Doctor-players are no less than IPL cricketers — their skill, discipline and determination will help this league create a new chapter in India’s sporting history, the organisers stated.

At present, teams are being formed under city names such as Mumbai MedStars, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Punjab, Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Jaipur and Kolkata. A few team slots are still open, and interested investors and team owners have been invited to contact the organisers.
