Spread the love Pune: In a significant gesture to promote and preserve the rich legacy of Indian classical music, senior radiologist Dr. Ramchandra “Balasaheb” Vishnu Paranjape and his wife Rama Paranjape have contributed a total of ₹10 lakh to two of Pune’s prestigious music institutions — Pune Bharat Gayan Samaj and Gopal Gayan Samaj. Each institution received ₹5 lakh during a formal donation ceremony held at Peshwe Sabhagruha, Sarasbaug, in the presence of trustees and several prominent dignitaries from across the city. The donation was made in memory of Dr. Paranjape’s parents, Late Bapusaheb (V.R. Paranjape) and Kamalabai Paranjape, reflecting the family’s deep-rooted association with music and cultural traditions. Among the key dignitaries present were Ramesh Bhagwat, President of Shree Devdeveshwar Sansthan, along with Sunil Rasane, President of Shrimant Dagdusheth Halwai Sarvajanik Ganpati Trust, and Treasurer Mahesh Suryavanshi. Notably, Dr. Paranjape currently serves as Vice President of the Dagdusheth Ganpati Trust.Representatives from Pune Bharat Gayan Samaj, including Shaila Datar, Shilpa Puntambekar, and Sawani Datar, along with Vikas Kashalkar and Radhika Jogalekar from Gopal Gayan Samaj, received the donation on behalf of their respective institutions. Speaking at the event, Ramesh Bhagwat emphasized that Pune’s growth as a cultural hub has been largely supported by generous patrons and donors. He highlighted the importance of proper utilization of funds to sustain and strengthen such institutions. Mahesh Suryavanshi noted that organizations consistently contributing to the cultural fabric of the city deserve greater recognition and support. He also stressed the need to preserve Pune’s identity as the cultural capital by actively promoting such initiatives. Sharing his personal connection, Dr. Paranjape recalled that his parents were closely associated with both institutions. He mentioned that legendary figures like Bal Gandharva had visited their home in the past, fostering a strong musical environment in the family. He expressed concern over the declining prominence of classical and semi-classical music and stated that supporting these institutions is a step towards nurturing the next generation of artists. The event was compered by Adhish Paigude, while Dr. Radhika Paranjape delivered the vote of thanks.
