Pune – Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti is not just a day of celebration with songs and dance. When we think of Dr. Ambedkar, what comes to mind is the moral and intellectual conscience he embodied. On this day, it is important to engage in self-reflection to truly understand his thoughts and awaken our self-respect. This candid opinion was expressed by Dr. Manohar Jadhav, Head of the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Study Centre at Savitribai Phule Pune University, who is also a noted author, critic, and speaker.

On the occasion of the 134th birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, a tribute program was organized on April 14 at the Keskar Auditorium of Nu.M.V. School by Nu.M.V. Prashala and Jai Ganesh Platform. During the event, members of various Ganesh Mandals, along with professors and teachers, gathered around a grand rangoli of Dr. Ambedkar and participated in a reading of sections from the Constitution. Dr. Manohar Jadhav delivered his speech at this time.

Among those present were Parag Thakur (Chairperson of the school committee and President of the Dhol-Tasha Mahasangh), Shrikrishna Chitale (Vice President of the Education Regulatory Board), Umesh Chavan (Founder President of the Patient Rights Council), member Rajendra Kadam, Mahesh Suryavanshi (Treasurer of Dagdusheth Halwai Trust), Piyush Shah (Coordinator of Jai Ganesh Platform), Prakash Kamble (Principal of Nu.M.V. School and Junior College), primary school principals Maya Soyam, Sangeeta Kale, Rajeshree Hendre, and Smita Kangune, among others.

The program was organized by several groups affiliated with the Jai Ganesh Platform, including Sainath Mandal Trust (Budhwar Peth), Veer Shivraj Mitra Mandal (Guruwar Peth), Ekta Mitra Mandal (Aranyeshwar), Navjyot Mitra Mandal (Yerwada), Rashtriya Satatoti Haud Mandal (Kasba Peth), Potsulya Maruti Mitra Mandal (Ganesh Peth), Shri Shani-Maruti Bal Ganesh Mandal (Erandwane), Ashtavinayak Mitra Mandal (Navi Peth), Trishund Ganpati Vijay Mandal Trust (Somwar Peth), Sanyukt Mitra Mandal (Sadashiv Peth), and Sanjeevani Mitra Mandal (Sahakar Nagar).

Dr. Manohar Jadhav further said that Dr. Ambedkar undertook great efforts to bring about a just social order by fighting on multiple fronts. He did not merely preach education; he worked to ensure every student had access to it. It is wrong to confine great personalities within caste boundaries. While caste may be a reality in society, discrimination is unjustified.

Umesh Chavan added that on the occasion of Dr. Ambedkar Jayanti, Ganesh Mandals coming together in a secular spirit to pay tribute is a significant contribution. Dr. Babasaheb’s name stands out in every definition of sacrifice and dedication.

Parag Thakur and Mahesh Suryavanshi also shared their thoughts. Students Neel Mahajan, Neha Bhise, and Shreya Kadam presented information on Dr. Ambedkar’s life and work. The program began with a ritual offering before Dr. Ambedkar’s portrait, followed by a collective reading of the Preamble to the Constitution. Balasaheb Kharat presented Buddha Vandana during the event.

The program was hosted by Vidya Chakankar, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Piyush Shah.
